HTC has taken quite a bit of heat for going back and fourth about an ICS upgrade for the HTC Desire HD and it has taken the initiative to expand on the reasoning behind the cancellation of the upgrade and apologizes for the confusion that ensued as the story developed. Check out the official statement and our thoughts after the break.

It's official, HTC states that the Desire HD's Android 4.0 ICS Upgrade is cancelled
It looks like that's all she wrote folks. HTC has officially, yes officially officially, announced that they have in fact cancelled the ICS Upgrade to the Desire HD. The proper news has been passed on to the appropriate PR agencies and HTC's official blog list of devices to be upgraded to ICS has also been updated to reflect the cancelling of the upgrade. Check out the official statement after the break.

Non-TELUS HTC Desire HD Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update still on track
We are still in a bit of shock when TELUS announced through its OS Upgrade schedule that the Desire HD's ICS upgrade had been scrapped by HTC due to "poor performance". This sparked a firestorm of activity on the internet about HTC breaking a promise to bring ICS to the one time HTC flagship device.
Now HTC has come forward and has reiterated that they are committed to bringing ICS to the Desire HD. Now, where does this leave TELUS Desire HD owners? Are they still going to be left in the dark? Did HTC really kill the update for the TELUS Desire HD or was TELUS behind the cancellation. We'll reach out to both HTC and TELUS to see if we can get a clarification about the whole situation.

HTC Desire HD's ICS upgrade has been cancelled
Looks like the hopes of seeing an upgrade of the Desire HD to ICS have been dashed. TELUS is reporting through their Device OS Upgrade schedule that the Desire HD's upgrade has been "cancelled due to poor device performance during testing". We are very sad to see the news and quite shocked as things looked up since they pushed the estimated ship date forward and that phones with similar (if not worse hardware) like the One V and Desire C already have Android 4.0 ICS.

Android ICS upgrade for several phones with updated timelines
We knew that the Galaxy Note was slated for an upgrade to ICS but we now get a clearer idea of when the update will occur for two carrier branded versions. The Rogers Galaxy Note is slated for an upgrade to ICS July 21st while the TELUS version is slated for "Late July" which we expect to be around the time the Rogers version gets updated. Other TELUS phones have also gotten an updated status on their ICS upgrade as the HTC Desire HD will be getting it's ICS upgrade soon than expected on July 17 rather than the 25th as originally planned, the Optimus LTE's upgrade has been pushed to August 7th rather than July and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are slated for an upgrade in August.

HTC posts upgrade schedule for its 2011 lineup
HTC has taken a really nice step into being more transparent with it's upgrade schedule by publishing upgrade dates for many of their devices. Most notably the HTC Desire HD has been added to the upgrade list. What we do have to remember though is that this upgrade schedule is subject to carrier testing and approval so date might not match up exactly for Canadian devices. Check out the list after the break.

HTC Desire HD and Incredible S to get Ice Cream Sandwich "later this year"
HTC has just announced and confirmed via their Facebook page that they will be updating the Desire HD and Incredible S to ICS "later this year". We're glad to finally see confirmation of ICS for these phones and expected it as their hardware is more than sufficient to run ICS. We hope that these updates make their way to Canada as well. If there is a silver lining to the "later this year" statement, the EVO 3D was tossed in the same bunch and given it's hardware we can't imagine it could be too challenging to get ICS on the EVO 3D meaning the update to the Incredible S and Desire HD might come sooner than later Unfortunately there is no word on ICS for the QWERTY Keyboard clad Desire Z.

TELUS HTC Desire HD getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread this summer
As reported earlier this year, the TELUS HTC Desire HD will be getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread in Q3 and has been confirmed by TELUS. Hopefully this also means the HTC Desire Upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread will also stay on track for a Q3 summer release.
