Fido LG Optimus 2X upgraded to Gingerbread

According to a tip to MobileSyrup the LG Optimus 2X from Fido has gotten an update to Gingerbread 2.3. Now this isn't exactly the update some have been looking for but still it's good to see that LG hasn't given up on the worlds first Dual Core phone. That being said LG has committed to ICS on the Optimus 2X so I suspect to see that update eventually.

HTC Amaze 4G Review

The "4G" arms race has been one for the ages with some companies relabeling 3G standards (HSPA+) as 4G and other companies racing to proliferate their emerging next generation technologies (LTE and WiMAX). Rogers and Bell have been going neck and neck trying to outdo each other with their LTE networks. TELUS on the other hand seems to be headed in another direction. Like T-Mobile in the US they haven't officially committed to LTE but are rather focusing on their network's Dual HSPA+ capabilities. Today we take a look at one of TELUS' two Dual HSPA+ 4G smartphones, the Amaze 4G HTC's first Dual HSPA+ 4G Android smartphone.

Chcke out the press release with pricing details after the break.

Samsung Galaxy S Infuse 4G Review

In many life situations the phrase "less is more" is often stated where holding back is advantageous. Don't tell that to Samsung, as it seems "more is more" is their mantra of choice when it come to smartphone displays. That being said, enter the Samsung Galaxy S Infuse 4G, a gargantuan phone equipped with a titanic 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus Display. Being somewhat of a "middle" child between the original Galaxy S series and the new Galaxy S II the question remains whether the Infuse 4G can be successful on looks alone.

HTC Panache Review

Given that WIND, Mobilicity and Vidéotron all run on the AWS band and are relative newcomers to the mobile market in Canada they are somewhat at a disadvantage. Having to get 3G devices with such an odd wireless band coupled with the fact that together all three carriers do not match the customer base of any of the big three, Rogers, Bell and TELUS, presents a unique challenge. Fortunately T-Mobile in the US uses AWS and does carry a wide array of fantastic Android devices and HTC Panache, also known as the myTouch 4G, is one of the first of many (hopefully) to make its way to Mobilicity and Vidéotron.

A long awaited tablet is just about to hit to make its grand entrance to Canada, the Flyer will be hitting shelve as of today. The tablet is running Android 2.3 with a Tablet oriented version of Sense. With Android 3.2 adding support for Qualcomm chipsets we expect the Flyer to be in line for an upgrade to Honeycomb 3.2. Unfortunately, unlike in the US where Best Buy is now including the scribe pen with the Flyer free of charge, Canadians will have to fork over the extra $80 to get in on the handwriting action. Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Review

Gaming on the go has been around just about as long as the cell phone itself. Naturally, people wanting to reduce the number of devices they carry around would most likely want their gaming device and phone in the same package. Recently, smartphones, especially slate/candybar smartphones with their massive screens, have been able to become pseudo-gaming devices. Unfortunately, hardcore gamers are usually turned off by the use of a touchscreen or a QWERTY keyboard for gaming and find the selection of mobile games rather underwhelming. A few years back, Nokia saw an opportunity to cater to the hardcore gamer demographic by creating the Nokia N-Gage; a gamepad wielding phone. Unfortunately, while the idea was a great one, the phone was a flop. Fast forward to 2011 and Sony Ericsson put out their crack at the gamer market with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc Review

It was just around two years ago that Sony Ericsson had the tech world at the edge of its seat when word of their first foray into the world of Android started trickling out. With every new leak we got glimpses of the handset that we know today as the Xperia X10. Touting a 1GHz Snapdragon Processor and 4 inch capacitive touchscreen these specs had every tech geek drooling and wondering when they could get one. Sadly though after a number of delays the X10 was eclipsed, spec wise, by other Android phones and most notably by the Nexus One which beat the X10 to the punch being the first 1GHz phone to be put out to market. Sony Ericsson did not let that deter them and in 2011 at CES announced the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc the follow up to the X10. In this review we will see if the Arc improves on the X10.
