Fido Original Motorola RAZR getting Jelly Bean Android 4.1 Update

The Motorola RAZR was the first iteration of the revival of the RAZR brand to be reincarnated into Android  form. While it was an engineering feat, there were many flaws with the device that held it back from being a hot selling device. One of the main issues was that it launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

This of course was somewhat alleviated by being upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Today the RAZR gets a new breath of fresh air as the Fido users have been reporting that they are receiving an over the air update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Good news that the two year old update is still getting support from Google.

Fido and Rogers Motorola RAZR HD LTE users reporting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade

According to MobileSyrup readers, it looks like the Motorola RAZR HD LTE is getting an upgrade to Jelly Bean ahead of schedule. In the upgrade plans for the Motorola RAZR HD LTE, the plan was for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to be rolled out RAZR HD LTE users in "Early February". However it looks like they beat the clock, by several days, as users on both Rogers and Fido have been reporting that they have been notified of the upgrade. Motorola RAZR HD LTE Review

Motorola’s first attempt at the revival of the RAZR brand was well received by some and not so well by others. To make things worse the RAZR happened to be announced on the same day the venerable Galaxy Nexus was unveiled. This time around, things have changed, Motorola unveiled its newest iteration of the RAZR brand, one of their most important product launches to date under the Google banner. The Motorola RAZR HD LTE looks like a real winner on paper but we’ll see if it really is a compelling offering.

Rogers HTC One X, Motorola RAZR HD, Sony Xperia T, Original Samsung Galaxy Note and Samsung Galaxy S II LTE to be upgraded to Jelly Bean in January

It looks like Rogers customers looking to upgrade their device to Jelly Bean will get a late Christmas present as Rogers has updated their OS upgrade schedule to reflect the projected rollout of various upgrades. The HTC One X and Original Samsung Galaxy Note are slated for an upgrade in early January, while the Samsung Galaxy S II, Motorola RAZR HD LTE and Sony Xperia T are slated for an upgrade in late January.

This aligns a bit with Telstra's more detailed Upgrade schedule, where their version of the One X has entered testing for a Jelly Bean build and is expect to be approved by the 24th. It is worth noting that they have already begun rollout of Jelly Bean to their RAZR HD.

Rogers launches the Motorola RAZR HD LTE

Rogers has launched the successor to the franchise reboot of the RAZR brand, the Motorola RAZR HD LTE. The RAZR HD LTE touts specs that bring it up to par with other flagship smartphones with a 1.5GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S4 Processor, 1GB of RAM, 720p Super AMOLED HD Display covered in Corning Gorilla Glass, 8MP camera and of course 4G LTE connectivity all in a sleek 8.4mm package. The RAZR HD LTE is launching with Android 4.01 Ice Cream Sandwich but will be upgraded to Jelly Bean before the end of the year (which we hope is sooner than later now that Motorola is under the Google banner).

Motorola RAZR HD hits FCC and heading to Rogers? We think so

Just ahead of the rumored but just about confirmed September 5th launch, Motorola's RAZR HD just hit the FCC in all it's documented glory. Interesting tidbits include LTE capabilities on band 4 and band 17 which respectively are the AWS band (1700MHz) and 700 MHz band. Coincidentally enough (not!), Rogers, Bell and TELUS run their LTE network on AWS. WIND launches the Motorola RAZR V

 

Looks like WIND was quicker than we first thought as they have officially released the Motorola RAZR V for public consumption. The RAZR V is powered by a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It has a 4.3-inch qHD "ColourBoost" Screen, 8MP camera /w 1080p recording capabilities, as well a microSD card slot and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

We we had a look at the Rogers Motorola RAZR last winter, we felt like it was a solid piece of hardware that really could have benefited from launching with Ice Cream Sandwich rather than Gingerbread. Today, several month later, the RAZR is finally running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as user are reporting that they have started receiving an over the air update. If you have a RAZR and have been looking forward to ICS make sure to check your System Updates in your settings menu.

Rogers establishes Android OS upgrade schedules

Looks like Rogers is taking steps towards being more transparent about its Android handset's upgradability. We've been clamoring for Rogers to be more transparent, like some of their competitors. In the first iteration of the upgrade schedule, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9, Sony Xperia Arc and Arc S, Sony Xperia Mini Pro are slated for an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in September and Motorola RAZR is projected to get ICS in late August.

Bell and Virgin launches the Motorola RAZR V

As we reported a few weeks ago, Bell has launched the Motorola RAZR V. It's powered by a 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, has a 4.3-inch qHD resolution ColorBoost Display and is launching with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is very reminiscent of the Rogers Motorala RAZR we reviewed a few months ago and a solid mid-range addition to Bell's lineup. We hope to bring you a review as soon as possible.

Motorola officially announces the Atrix HD LTE and the RAZR V

It's been a busy day for the folks at Motorola Canada as they have officially unveiled the Motorola Atrix HD LTE which is headed exclusively to Bell and the RAZR V which is headed to multiple carriers and stores. The Atrix HD LTE is the a followup to Bell's original Atrix (or second follow up as the Atrix 2 was never released in Canada), while the RAZR V is a spinoff on the flagship RAZR device that was launched on Rogers a few months back. Leaked Motorola RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 videos show functionality

When we reviewed the Motorola RAZR, we were hoping that Motorola would revamp their custom UI with Android 4.0 and it looks like they have done just that. Videos leaked by DroidLife show a very stock ICS implementation for the upcoming upgrade to the Motorola RAZR. We look forward to the update hitting the Canadian version from Rogers. Motorola releases ICS update schedule

Motorola has just updated their projected update path for several of their handsets. The Motorola RAZR, we we last reviewed is confirmed for an update to Android 4.0 in Q2 2012. Other devices expected to get ICS are unfortunately "Under Evaluation" for the ICS update, this includes the Motorola XOOM WiFi, the Motorola XT860 as well as the Motorola Atrix. Fortunately though, the Motorola XOOM in the US has already gotten ICS while the Atrix in the US is listed for an upgrade to ICS in Q3 so we are hoping the smae update will eventually make it's way to Canada. The Motorola XT860, is however still in "limbo" as the US version (DROID 3) is also "Under Evaluation". Check out the full upgrade list after the break.

Motorola RAZR Review

With the flurry of smartphones released in the past three to four years it's hard to remember a time before Apps, Gigahertz and 4G. But if you think hard enough you will find a past littered with feature phones that didn't do much in terms of software so had to impress with hardware. That's where the Motorola RAZR fit in, with its ultra thin form factor it captured the eye of millions of people around the world being the last real iconic feature phone before the advent of smartphones. Motorola looks to continue on the RAZR heritage with the Android powered Motorola RAZR. We'll see how this RAZR reincarnation does in the ultra competitive smartphone market and whether it can live up to its legendary lineage.

Motorola official announces the RAZR (yup it's back!) and it's headed to Rogers

Who would have thought, the world most recognizable phone before the unbiquitous iPhone is making a comeback. Motorola is bringing back the RAZR brand and finally powering it with Android. A match made in heaven? Who knows. More after the break.
