Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Review

While the first non-Honeycomb Android Tablets had been "stumbles" to say the least, they were poised to come back with a vengeance with the introductions of dual core processors. Tegra 2 was the first to break the ice (at least in the mainstream) in the mobile space. Since the beginning of 2011 many phones and tablets have been shipped powered by the chipset. In comes the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, it certainly wasn't the first tablet on the scene but it was the first to really prioritize form as well as functionality. This of course has caused quite a stir in the tech world as a competing company, named after a specific fruit, has gone out of its way to try to block the sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in many countries. Today we review the HSPA+ version from Bell to see what all the fuss is about.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer updated to Android 3.2.1

Yet again, ASUS is showing how it is to be a responsible Android Manufacturer. The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer has received yet another speedy update to Android 3.2.1. This update brings a bunch of fixes and improvements as well as a new note taking app called Supernote which by my initial test works very well. Fixes include fixing browser crashes and improvements include better in browser Flash performance. More after the break.

First Screenshots of HTC Flyer running Android 3.2 Honeycomb with Sense UI

Last Friday, we started getting reports of an early beta build of Android 3.2 Honeycomb for the HTC Flyer being leaked to Paul from MoDaCo. As this leaked build made its way to XDA members, one person has managed to get the ROM to boot on their 32GB 3G Flyer (apparently the only version that will work with the leaked ROM right now). The user, globatron has graciously posted up some screenshot for us to examine. Check them out after the break.

HTC Flyer early Honeycomb build gets leaked

Back in June when we got the rumored change log for the Android 3.2 Honeycomb update, one interesting addition was support for Qualcomm Chipsets and lower res screens. We believed this would be a key improvement as it would allow the HTC Flyer (which we will review shortly) to get a true Tablet experience. While the Tablet-centric version Sense UI does a great job optimizing Android 2.3 for tablet use it doesn't compare to the Honeycomb optimized apps available on the Android Market. It now seems that HTC has an early build of Android 3.2 Honeycomb for the Flyer and it has been leaked to the astute modder Paul O'Brien from MoDaCo. Hopefully will we see the same Sense UI enhanced version of Honeycomb that will be found on the HTC Jetstream.

Samsung to attack the Canadian market with an onslaught of Tablets

It was just a couple of months ago the Android Tablet markets was barren when it came to offerings only a few short months later the market is now much more active and is about to get even more choice. According to various MobileSyrup sources The Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G will be heading for Rogers, Bell (September 8th) and TELUS (September 8th) while the Tab 8.9 is rumoured to be headed to Bell. Things are about to shake up again in the tablet market.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer getting 3.2 update tomorrow

Falling in line with what was reported yesterday, the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer should getting 3.2 update tomorrow, according to the ASUS official Twitter account. For those of you who bought the Transformer, keep your eyes peeled for an update tomorrow.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II leaked, possible Rogers version?

BGR has gotten some pretty convincing evidence of the carrier specific version of the Galaxy S II for AT&T. Knowing the past of certain AT&T devices heading Rogers like the Galaxy S Captivate and the Galaxy S Infuse 4G, it certainly is a distinct possibility that Rogers could be getting the QWERTY keyboard laden version of the Galaxy S II.

ASUS France says Eee Pad Transformer 3.2 update is "days away"

ASUS' runaway hit, the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is one of the hottest tablets available and for good reason. The Transformer stood out from the crowd with its unique ability to convert from a tablet to an Android based Netbook and bottom of the barrel prices without compromising quality. Add to this the fact that ASUS has clearly shown that they are committed to bringing the latest updates to their Android tablet in a timely manner. It's not a surprise that ASUS is claiming it's the best selling Android Tablet.

ASUS France's official Twitter account announced the Android 3.2 update will be hitting Transformers in just a "few days". We can't wait.

Could the HTC "Puccini" tablet be heading to Rogers?

To say that HTC and Android's successes were anything less than meteoric would be a huge understatement. So when Google announced their Tablet version, Android 3.x Honeycomb, of the OS it was implicitly expected that HTC would be in on the action. Sadly, that hasn't been the case (so far...)

Acer Iconia Tab A500 gets Android 3.1

The Canadian Android tablet landscape has gotten a whole lot interesting over the past three months and many companies have jumped at the chance of grabbing the exploding growth of the tablet market. One aspect that these manufacturers need to keep tabs on (pun intended) is keeping up to date with the latest iterations of Android. The Acer Iconia Tab is now completely up to date with an OTA update to Android 3.1.

Android 3.2 to be the last Honeycomb update before Ice Cream Sandwich

Look like This is my next, has some dirt on the the next iteration of Honeycomb. Apparently Android 3.2, the last update for Honeycome before Ice Cream Sandwich, will feature mostly bug fixes and optimization for existing 10.1 tablets with Tegra 2 SoCs. But an important part of this update will be applied to pre-Honeycomb 7-inch tablets as well as upcoming 7-inch tablets.

Motorola XOOM will get 3.1 upgrade "soon" includes SDCard support

Motorola Canada, has just dropped a juicy tidbit on two fronts. For one the WiFi only Motorola XOOM in Canad will be getting the Android 3.1 upgrade "soon" and noted that this update will also include SDCard support.

LG Optimus Pad to launch May 17th on Rogers

Many Canadian Android enthusiasts have probably been eying one tablet or another but some have held off because of the lack of a 3G capable version. Well the wait will soon be over Rogers will be releasing the LG Optimus Pad. This will be Canada's first 3G capable tablet ("4G" if you consider HSPA+ as 4G).

Ice Cream Sandwich and Honeycomb 3.1 announced

It's official! Straight from Google I/O the biggest event of the year for all Android users, Google has announced Ice Cream Sandwich the next significant iteration of Android that will unify both the smartphone and tablet fork of the Android Operating system. Details are a few and far in between except a few demos done at the keynote.

Also announce was Android Honeycomb 3.1 the next iteration of Android for tablets and Google TV. So far this version touts better widget customization and USB host capabilities including support for USB storage and USB based controller like the Xbox controller. This new version will be rolling out to Motorola XOOMs on Verizon first and Google TV devices later this summer no word on other devices.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer flying off the shelves

As we stated in the past on Android Bugle, Canada hasn't exactly been a hotbed for tablets and of course Android tablets. But things seem to be changing as the highly anticipated ASUS Eee Pad Transformer launched on April 26th has been out of stock nation wide as well as in the rest of North America.

Motorola XOOM WiFi now available

The Motorola XOOM has finally hit Canadian shelves. It is now available at Best Buy and Futureshop for $599. While it's great to see a high end Android tablet finally making it to market in Canada, the price leaves us scratching our heads a bit.

Android supporters in Canada longing for an Android 3.0 Honeycomb powered tablet will be happy to hear that the WiFi version will be hitting Canada in April.

With no real Android powered tablet offering in Canada outside of the Samsung Galaxy Tab and lesser tablets from smaller tablet makers like Viewsonic and Archos, the tablet optimized XOOM will be a very welcome addition to the very sparse collection of Android tablet devices in Canada.

Adobe Flash 10.2 heading to an Android 2.2/2.3/3.0 equipped device near you!

One week from now Adobe will be releasing Flash 10.2 for Android devices equipped with Froyo and Gingerbread as well as a beta version for Honeycomb Tablets running version Android 3.0.1.

Android 3.0 to smartphones? Adobe says yes!

According to Engadget, Adobe has let slip that Honeycomb aka. Android 3.0 will be the minimum OS requirement for Flash 10.2 because of code that allows for Flash to take full advantage of the mobile devices hardware and that it will be hitting tablets AND smartphones. Now if only we could get Android 2.3 Gingerbread on Canadian devices... hell even a Nexus S would be nice at this point.
