Didn't think LG was going to let the competition have all the fun with their flagship launches did you? Today they unveiled their 2015 flagship phone the LG G4. Visually with this flagship LG is taking its well known and well received G3 design and give it subtle tweaks, including design cues from its experimental G Flex Line, to make its own.
As it is a flagship device, it's sporting some pretty impressive specs including an Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 808 Processor, a 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS Quantum Display at 1440p and 538ppi, 32GB of internal storage expandable via microSD slot, 3GB RAM, a 16MP F1.8 Aperture camera with Optical image stabilization + a front facing 8MP camera, a 3000mAh removable battery, LTE connectivity and Android 5.1 Lollipop. Colours offered in Canada include Ceramic Metallic Gray and Genuine Leather Black.
Canadian availability is expected in June from Bell, Rogers, TELUS, Videotron and WIND Mobile.

Not unlike its closest competitors, Samsung one of the, if not the, top Android Manufacturers latest flagship has been subject of rumors and leaks. But today Samsung finally pull the wraps of its 2015 flagship(s) the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
Both devices are set to be co-flagships for this year and are putting Samsung new commitment to premium materials and design up front and center. This years iteration of the venerable Galaxy S series sports glass fronts and backs, metal that runs around the devices as well as throughout for rigidity, and of course on the Galaxy S6 Edge the screen will wrap ever around the edges.
Specs for both devices include a 5.1-inch 1440p Super AMOLED display, 3GB of DDR4 RAM, a Samsung Octa Core Exynos 7 SoC, 32/64/128GB of internal storage (gone is the microSD expandability), a 16MP camera, a 2550mAh battery for the S6 and a 2600mAh for the S6 Edge.
Our Friends at Samsung have confirmed to us that the both versions of the S6 will come in Black Sapphire and Pearl White colours will be available April 10, 2015.
Confirmed carries include Rogers, Bell, TELUS, WIND, SaskTel and Videotron.
While the torrent leaks of photos, videos and specs kept the M9 as mobile tech's worse secret, HTC still proudly took the stage today at MWC to unveil their 2015 flagship device in the HTC One M9. While many are quick top point out the more than striking resemblance to the HTC One M8, the M9 takes many of the issues brought up with the M8 and addresses them in this year's iteration.
The three most noticeable hardware changes on the M9 include the shift from the 4MP UltraPixel camera (now relegated to the front facing duties) + Depth Sensor to a more conventional 20.7MP rear facing shooter, the placement of the power button on the side of the device rather than top and finally a "sharpening of the edges to improve grip on a pretty slippery phone.
Under the hood there are some significant improvements with HTC opting for the new Snapdragon 810 Octa Core 4 x 2.0 GHz + 4 x 1.5 GHz SoC, Adreno 430 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage expandable by micro SD, 1080p 5 inch Super LCD 3 display, a 2840 mAh battery and is running Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sense 7 on top.
The M9 will be available from Bell, Rogers, SaskTel, TELUS, and Videotron

Looks like it's Lollipop week as not one or two or three but four devices from three different manufacturers nonetheless have started receiving their upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
This morning we got word from our friends at LG that the G3 would start getting the upgrade starting today.
“Bringing the new Lollipop Android update to LG G3 users has been a top priority for us,” said Eunice Lee, Brand Manager of Mobile Communications, LG Canada. “LG is committed to providing our customers with the best mobile experience, and the Lollipop upgrade is a key part of that innovative experience. The new Android OS brings a refreshed interface to the LG G3 that complements its existing design and enhances the device’s functionality. We believe that our customers will find great value in the Lollipop upgrade.”
On the side of Motorola, the Moto G (first gen) from Virgin, TELUS, Koodo, Videotron, WIND and the unlocked retail version should all have started receiving the update as of yesterday. The LTE version from Rogers, Fido and Videotron however are not part of this initial rollout.
The Moto X second gen from WIND is also getting a second attempt at a Lollipop upgrade after the last attempt cause some devices to be bricked. No word yet on the original Moto X, as Motorola is stated to be needing more time due to the custom X8 Compute platform SoC used in the original Moto X.
Lastly, one of our readers has informed us (later confirmed by MobileSyrup) that the HTC One M7 has also started start getting it's rollout to Lollipop as well. (Thanks Alex!)

HTC had promised that it would keep its flagships updated within 90 of receiving code from Google for a new version of the Android OS. While it missed that mark by a few days, HTC has finally delivered the Lollipop Android 5 update to Canadian HTC One M8s. Last week, just before the weekend Bell, SaskTel and WIND M8s got the update first and today Rogers and TELUS versions followed suit.
This has been confirmed by users and by HTC America VP Mo Versi on Twitter.
This past Friday, Samsung officially made available the Galaxy Note 4 to Canadians. This includes the Charcoal Black and Frost White versions.
Again Specs include a 5.7 inch Quad HD 2560x1440p display, 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage which can be supplimented by 128GB via microSD card, 16MP Camera with Optical Image Stabilization.
Carriers include Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Koodo, WIND Mobile, Videotron and SaskTel with more to be added later as well as major retailers.
With a very low key announcement, Google in partnership with HTC and Motorola have officially unveiled the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. We have the following information from our friends at TELUS, HTC and Motorola about the Canadian availability.
The Nexus 6 will be made by Motorola and is heavily inspired by the 2014 Moto X but with aspirations of phablet domination. While the Nexus 9 on the other hand is HTC's grand re-entrance into the incredibly cutthroat tablet market. With an 8.9 inch display, the Nexus 9 fall between the iPad Mini and iPad Air in terms of size.
Price for the Nexus 6 are the big shocker today as the usually ultra affordable flagship Nexus Handset is a surprising $749 for the 32GB version (expected to be $799 for the 64GB version). Price for the Nexus 9 in Canada isn't clear but we expect it to be in the $399 range to be competitive with both the iPads.
Carrier availability for the Nexus 6 is expected to be widespread but for now all we have is information from our friends at TELUS that it wil be coming "later this year". As for the Nexus 9, TELUS also tell us that it (the LTE version) will be available "later this year" and HTC adds that it will also be coming to Canadians via Futureshop/Best Buy as well as the LTE version via Rogers.
For specs, the Nexus 6 is sporting a 5.96-inch 2560x1440 QHD AMOLED display, 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 Processor, Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 32/64GB of internal storage, 13MP f2.0 Rear Facing Camera and 3220mAh battery
While the Nexus 9 is sporting a 8.9" 2048x1536 QXGA IPS LCD, 2.3GHz 64-bit Tegra K1 Processor, 192-core Kepler GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB of internal storage, 8MP f2.0 Rear Facing Camera and 6700mAh battery
Google also announced that the Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013), Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 10 will all get upgrades to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

With the Moto X, Motorola turned over a new leaf in its storied history by renewing its commitment to Android by making one of the best phones of 2013 and showed that software differentiation can go much deeper than just slapping on a "OEM skin" over Android and loading the phone with a million features.
This week Motorola unveiled the new Moto X for 2014 which builds on the movement they started with the original. With specs that include a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p Super AMOLED display, a 2.5Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13MP camera wth dual LED Ring flash and 4K video capture, a 2300mAh battery, front facing stereo speakers and Android 4.4.4 KitKat, the Moto X is certainly well equipped to go toe to toe with any of 2014's current crop of flagships.
One thing that has us worried would be the 2300mAh battery which seems at first glance a tad low compared to the 3000+ we've seen from many of the other flagship devices.
We look forward to get our hands on the device. The Moto X will be coming to Canada in black and bamboo to TELUS this fall. No word on availability with other carriers.
With the New Moto G, Motorola continues its warpath on conquering the emerging markets where the original Moto G was incredibly popular. With a no frills, no compromise Android experience but on a shoestring budget, the Moto G brought Android to millions of people who might otherwise have not had the means to. All this with little to no sacrifices.
Current Moto G owners will be familiar with the specs of the new Moto G as they are just about identical save for some tweaks Motorola saw fit according to their research. They include a 1.2 GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 400 Processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of Internal Storage, Adreno 305 Graphic processor, 8 MP camera with LED flash and 720p video recording capabilities and front facing stereo speakers. The screen gets a bump to 5-inches at 720p. The inclusion of expandable storage with a mcroSD card slot was a feature desired by many in the markets where the Moto G was successful.
We do wish the 2GB of RAM was increased as many people with the Moto G have noted memory related issues with app staying active in the background with the relatively low amount of RAM.
The Moto G will be coming to Canada in October at retail in partnership with Ingram Micro Canada.
The Moto 360 has undoubtedly been the most anticipated Android Wear devices since Google announced the smartwatch centric OS. We now know that the 360 will be coming to Canada through TELUS, Futureshop, Best Buy this fall for $279.
Specs include a 1.5-inch backlit LCD touch screen, with a 320×290 resolution, 205ppi, and Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3, 512MB of RAM, Wireless N connectivity, and a Texas Instruments processor.
With spring's arrival, the Galaxy S5 is also finally here. Available in Canada and worldwide the S5 is available from numerous Canadian carriers. namely Rogers, Bell, TELUS, WIND, Eastlink, Videotron, Virgin and SaskTel .
With the S5, Samsung refreshes the already familiar and solid offering in the Galaxy S4 with inspiration from the Note 3. For Canadian G2 owners waiting eagerly awaiting an update to Android 4.4.2, the wait is over as we've just gotten word from our friends at LG that the Canadian G2 is now receiving its update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. WHile this obviously includes all the improvements expected in Android 4.4.2, LG also mentions an improvement to their innovative KnockOn feature called KnockCode which was thought to be only for the G2 Pro. The feature won't be available yet, but will be activated in Q2 this years and will allows users to unlock their phone using a distinct "Knock" pattern.
If you have a G2 and have been anticipating the update, check under Settings, About Phone and Software update. We also have word that the G Flex should also be getting an update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat "later" in 2014.
The HTC One finally has a successor in the the new HTC One (M8). Like its predecessor the M8 is a continuation of HTC's incredible industrial design prowess. The new One is once again made entirely out of aluminum and is built to feel even better in the hand than last year's model.
Specs include a 2.3GHz Quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC, 2GB of RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded by microSD, Dual Camera Ultrapixel camera, 5MP front facing camera, 2600mAh battery and is powered by Android 4.4.2 with Sense 6 or "Sixth Sense".
Making its return is the Ultrapixel camera, but this time with a secondary camera for depth perception. Also making a return is HTC Boomsound, with an improved Stereospeaker system which HTC claims is louder and clearer than last years incarnation.
HTC did make a significant change when it comes to the display on the M8 as it is now a 5 inch 1080p display and has surprisingly went with on screen navigation buttons rather than the Capacitive buttons we've known HTC to favor.
Overall we can't wait till we get our hands on the M8 to try out.
We're less than an hour away from the launch of the all new HTC One and still information is getting out. This time it's info from HTC's own website with the M8 buy now page being up ahead of today's launch. Rogers, Bell, TELUS, WIND and SaskTel look like the carriers that will be makign the One available and if the rumors are true they could be available starting today.
With the buzz from MWC waning down, Samsung has announced to Canadians that the Galaxy S5, Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit will be hitting Canadian shelves on April 11th. While we already know that the S5 will be made available from Bell, Eastlink, Fido, Koodo, MTS, Rogers, SaskTel, TELUS, Videotron, Virgin Mobile and WIND Mobile.
Pricing is becoming a bit clearer too as Samsung suggests that princing will start at $229 on select plans. While there is no specific on which carrier we expect it to be in the same ballpark for most carriers on 2 year plans.
What a fantastic way to start a Monday, if you're a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owner and have been looking forward to an update to the latest version of Android, today is your day. Users on various Canadian carriers are reporting that they have been receiving their OTA update to KitKat this morning. This comes with a news of the Galaxy S4 getting the update just last week.

In terms of the looks, the Galaxy S5 looks very much like the S4 from the front but in the back you see a drastic change as Samsung forgoes the glassy hyperglaze of the S4 and like the Note 3 opts instead for a leather like plastic textured back that is surprisingly reminiscent of the original Nexus 7.
We've also gotten word from our friends at Samsung that the Galaxy S5 will be available in Canada (presumably in April like the rest of the world) from Bell, Eastlink, Fido, Koodo, MTS, Rogers, SaskTel, TELUS, Videotron, Virgin Mobile and WIND Mobile (noticeably absent is Mobilicity).
The Galaxy S5 will come in Black, White, Blue and Gold although we don't think all the colours will be available in Canada at launch. We also expect carrier specific exclusive to be announced later like with the S III and S4.

HTC gave itself 90 Days to get the carrier branded HTC One updated to Android 4.4 and it looks like it has kept that promise. Despite indications from HTC Americas boss Jason Mackenzie that the Android 4.4. update was going to be delayed to the coming weeks, it looks like Canadian HTC Ones have started to receive the coveted update to Android's latest version.
If you have an Canadian HTC One on Rogers, TELUS, Bell, Virgin, SaskTel or WIND look for your update under Settings -> About Phone -> Software update.
The HTC One (and one Mini) represents a significant change for HTC, as they are working on the most criticized and scrutinized aspect of their operations, post purchase updates. While the One X might not see the light of another update, the 2013 flagship HTC One is looking at it's third update in Android 4.4 KitKat while the One Mini will be going straight from Android 4.2.2 to Android 4.4 its first major update.
It looks like we are inching closer to meeting that self imposed 90 day deadline to get KitKat rolled out to users after Android 4.4 was announced. According to HTC's website the Android 4.4 update is now in the Certification process which means that it is now down to the carriers as the last major hurdle to pushing out an Over-the-Air update.
Hopefully they can keep their promise made just 83 days ago.
