LG G2 Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update now rolling out to Canadians
For Canadian G2 owners waiting eagerly awaiting an update to Android 4.4.2, the wait is over as we've just gotten word from our friends at LG that the Canadian G2 is now receiving its update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. WHile this obviously includes all the improvements expected in Android 4.4.2, LG also mentions an improvement to their innovative KnockOn feature called KnockCode which was thought to be only for the G2 Pro. The feature won't be available yet, but will be activated in Q2 this years and will allows users to unlock their phone using a distinct "Knock" pattern.
If you have a G2 and have been anticipating the update, check under Settings, About Phone and Software update. We also have word that the G Flex should also be getting an update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat "later" in 2014.
Check out the press release after the break.

Rogers LG G2, Sony Xperia Z1 and HTC Desire 601 KitKat Update coming soon
Rogers has updated their OS Upgrade page and they detail that the LG G2, Sony Xperia Z1 as well HTC Desire 601 will be receiving an upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat "Soon". While "Coming soon" is abotu as vague as you can get, the HTC One and One Mini had the same status and had their update roll out a few days later.
We hope for the same with this crop of smartphones. On HTC's OS upgrade page the Desire 601's is stated upgrade s stated to be in certification not only on Rogers but all carriers its sold by including Videotron, WIND, Koodo, etc. While we can't assume rollout will be simultaneous it at least give an idea of the timeline for updates.

Canadian LG G2 to get Android 4.4 KitKat in Q1 2014
Looks like KitKat has just been confirmed for yet another Android Flagship. According to information obtained by MobileSyrup, their current flagship the LG G2. They've gotten word that the update will be submitted to carriers at the same time but they cannot guarantee that it will be rolled out simultaneously. But judging from other updates like the 4.3 update that just rolled out to Galaxy smartphone owners chances are the we will see a simultaneous rollout.
We expect LG's UI to remain relatively the same despite some of the downsides to the design choices made by LG, as non-power users are usually jarred when UIs are heavily modified.
That being said it's still good to see another flagship be committed to Android's latest version.

LG G2 Review
The Optimus G was LG's 2012 flagship and was an incredible step forward for the company. Prior to the Optimus G, LG's reputation in the smartphone world was less than stellar. But with great smartphones like the Optimus G and the Nexus 4 LG is on the right track to rise up the ranks of Android OEMs. Today we take a look at the Optimus G's successor and what is the baseline hardware for this year's Nexus 5, the LG G2.

Rogers and TELUS will release the LG G2
Right on the heels of LG unveiling the G2 last night in New York, it looks like the first Canadian carrier has committed to the new 2013 LG flagship device. Rogers TELUS is the first Canadian carrier to officially announce that it will carry the G2. We don't expect them to be the last as the G2 is expected to go head to head with the flagship devices from competing OEMs like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One.
[Update:] Our mistake, TELUS actually announced first that it was going to carry the G2 with Rogers following suite just after. We expect Bell to announce availability soon.

LG G2 officially unveiled, coming to multiple Canadian carriers
LG's next flagship is now a reality with the announcement of the G2. As we reported yesterday the G2 is coming packed to the gills with hardware with a 5.2-inch 1080p IPS display, 2.26GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 800 Processor, Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB of RAM and a 3000mAh battery.
Two of the most noticeable changed on the G2 are the hardware buttons and the bezel (or lack thereof). Instead of the buttons being mounted on the sides like every other phone, is now foudn on the back of the device. Right below the speak you find the volume rocker with the power button right in the middle. It will remain to see if this is more ergonomic than traditional button layouts.
The G2 is also packed with an insane amount of software features from floating video capabilities, to camera in camera modes and even contextual apps that open automatically depending on what you plug into the device.
Word is that the G2 will be headed to multiple carriers in Canada and we would not be surprised if it hit at least the Big 3 Rogers, Bell and TELUS and perhaps the new entrants WIND, Mobilicity and Videotron.
We'll have more information as it comes in.

LG G2 leaked in press shots before official unveiling tomorrow
On the eve of the unveiling of LG's next flagship, the renowned Evan Blass of evleaks has yet another epic leak. This time it's the full press images of the G2. Judging from the shots it looks like a total step away form the design of the Optimus G and looks to have more curves to it with a very impressing screen to bezel ratio.
The G2 is expected to be rocking the ultra high end Snapdragon 800 Processor with Adreno 330 graphics, 2 GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a 2600mAh battery and LTE capabilities. Also very interestingly is that the G2 is expected to come with Android 4.3 at launch which would be awesome to see. Overall the specs are cutting edge and we will only need to way about half a day before getting the full story on this exciting new flagship.

LG's next flagship will be dubbed the "G2"
While we do like some continuity in a product line, the G2 is a fine name that has a nice ring but is riddled by previous devices also dubbed G2 that didn't fair so well. Both on T-Mobile in the US, the G2x from LG ironically and the G2 from HTC were decent phones at launch but really didn't stand the test of time.
Expect LG to pull out all the stops to compete with the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and of course upcoming iPhone, check out the full press release after the break.
