Rogers Sony Xperia S jetting update to Android 4.1.2, Xperia Ion could be next

Users of the Rogers Sony Xperia S have been reporting to MobileSyrup that the Sony Xperia S has been getting an over the air update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Great news for the once venerable flagship device, as the Xperia S is now a (surprisingly) full 3 generations behind the current flagship(s) the Xperia Z/ZL. That being said, this update should breathe new life into the device.

Also in Xperia related news, the Xperia Blog has reported that Xperia Ion users have also started receiving over the air update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. No word on the Canadian version getting this update yet, we've reached out to our friends at Sony for more information and will let you know if we get any news.

Sony Xperia Ion launches on WIND

As posted last month, the Sony Xperia Ion is making its way to WIND mobile. While our time with the Xperia Ion was a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde experience, it was a decent offering from Sony who find themselves in the middle of a transition period. This still makes it a welcome addition to WIND's smartphone lineup.

Our time with the Sony Xperia Ion was at times good and at times bad, but overall we found it to be a good smartphone. It seems like the good folks at WIND liked the Ion as well as it seems like the Rogers exclusivity will soon end. While it won't carry over the LTE capabilities we had in our review, the Ion will be a great addition to WIND's lineup.

Sony Xperia Ion Review

When we last took a look at a Sony device, it was still a joint partnership with Ericsson. Today we look at Sony's first foray into the Android world as a single company, the Xperia Ion. While this is the first Sony branded phone we get to review, we are certain it will not be the last. The Xperia Ion is a curious device sporting some decent specs on paper but has stiff competition from Samsung and HTC in Rogers' LTE lineup of phones. We'll see just how it stacks up in our review of the Sony Xperia Ion.

Sony will launch the Playstation Mobile October 3rd

According to Pocket Gamer, Sony will be launching their highly anticipated PlayStation Mobile service. 30 Games will be available at launch from various studios. Of course this will be only available to PlayStation Certified devices like the Xperia Ion and HTC One X but this is still fantastic news for game development on Android. Luckly, according to the report Canada will be one of the launch countries so October 3rd Canadians will get to see what Sony's PlayStation Mobile SDK brings to developers.

Sony Xperia Ion to get Ice Cream Sandwich next week

We've just gotten our review unit in for the Sony Xperia Ion and with that some good news as it looks like it will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich next week. While We aren't sure if our test unit will get the upgrade before we have to return the review unit be we've reached out to Sony for the sake of the review. One of our few complains with the device so far is that it shipped with Gingerbread, so this update is welcome news.

Rogers launches the Sony Xperia Ion

Rogers' long running relationship with Sony Ericsson continues as they have nabbed yet another exclusive. This time it's the Xperia Ion, Sony's first LTE capable smartphone, equipped with a 4.55-inch 720p display, Dual Core Snapdragon S3 Processor, LTE connectivity, 12MP 1080p Camera and 16GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, like other Xperia line phones launched recently, the Ion will ship with Gingerbread but will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich. It's available today for $49.99 on 3 year contract.
