Samsung announces list of devices to recieve Android 4.4 KitKat

Android 4.4 has been rolling out in a pretty impressive fashion compared to previous major Android iterations especially when it comes to carrier branded devices. The Motorola and HTC flagships are on Android 4.4 KitKat, the Moto G and soon HTC One Mini will also be graced with the latest of Android, so it was only expected that Samsung tip its hand as to which devices it plans to upgrade. To our surprise it's quite a list.

  • Galaxy Note 3
  • Galaxy Note II
  • Galaxy S4
  • Galaxy S4 mini
  • Galaxy S4 Active
  • Galaxy S4 zoom
  • Galaxy S III
  • Galaxy S III mini
  • Galaxy Mega
  • Galaxy Light
  • Galaxy Note 8.0
  • Galaxy Tab 3
  • Galaxy Note 10.1
  • Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
We were very surprised to see the S III mini in the list and we are glad to see so many devices included. While this list is provided by Samsung USA, its expected the the same Canadian devices be upgrade as well (unless we have a situation like with the HTC One X)

Nevertheless we hope to see these updates rollout very soon. If your device is on this list, you can rest pretty sure that you will get Android 4.4 KitKat.

  • Compatibility with Galaxy Gear
  • S Pen enhancements (For Note II)
  • Improved performance (Graphics, Multimedia, Bluetooth, etc)
  • Improved the user interface and stability
  • User interface adjustment (Icon change, etc)
  • Security Enhancements
If you have one of the the aforementioned device make sure to check out your system settings menu for the latest update.

WIND, Mobilicity and Videotron Samsung Galaxy Note II gets multi-window update

Looks like Galaxy Note II owners on AWS carriers will no longer have to wait for the multiwindow update that the users on Rogers/Bell/TELUS have been enjoying. It seems like all three AWS carriers have pushed out the update to their users. As with the other update this one allows users to open two apps at once. Thanks to our readers who let us in on the news.

Samsung Galaxy Note II gets multi-window update

This past week an update was pushed out to the Rogers/Bell/TELUS Galaxy Note IIs that allowed users to use the much coveted multi-window function. During our time with the phone we were saddened by the lack of this really great feature. With this update users can now have certain apps open at the same time on the large screen of the Note II. No word just yet on the AWS version getting the update.

Samsung Galaxy Note II now available in Canada

Our friends at Samsung Canada have let us know that the Galaxy Note II is now available from various carriers and retailers. There has been a good amount of buzz around the phablet, especially in Canada, so I'm sure this will be welcome news to many. Here's a refresher of the specs: 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display (sans-PenTile) at 720p resolution, 1.6GHz Exynos processor, 2GM of RAM, 16/32/64GB of internal storage, 3100mAh battery, NFC capabilities, improved S Pen capabilities and best of all comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. Rogers, Bell and TELUS will have LTE connectivity while WIND, Mobilicity and Videotron will be carrying a Dual-Channel HSPA+ capable radio.

Pricing revealed for Samsung Galaxy Note II

Like the Galaxy S III, the Galaxy Note II will have big shoes to fill in the surprisingly successful Original Galaxy Note. Several pricing details have started trickling out. It seems like the Galaxy Note II will be launching on TELUS and Bell for $149.99 for the 16GB version while Rogers looks like it might be trying to launch it at the exorbitantly high $249.99. We aren't sure if this is a typo by Best Buy or not but we certainly hope it is a typo for Rogers customers looking to upgrade.

Samsung Galaxy Note II headed to Rogers, Bell, TELUS, WIND, Mobilicity, Videotron

According to information gathered by MobileSyrup from various sources, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy Note II will be headed to almost every major carrier in Canada. We were hoping the AWS T-Mobile Galaxy Note was going to head to the new entrants but this is even better. Every carrier should be getting the same version with LTE/DC-HSPA capabilities, a 1.6GHz Quad-Core Processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a 8MP rear facing camera with 1080p capabilities and a 3100mAh battery.

Samsung announces the Galaxy Note II and says Jelly Bean coming soon to Galaxy S III and other devices

The successor to the surprise hit of 2011 is now official as Samsung unveils the Galaxy Note II. Like the behemoth phone before it, the Note II continues the "phablet" segment of the smartphone market. But this time around it probably will not be counted out by reviewers as the past version did. The Note II is in many ways a larger Galaxy S III, sporting a bigger 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display (sans-PenTile) at 720p resolution, 1.6GHz Exynos processor, 2GM of RAM, 16/32/64GB of internal storage, 3100mAh battery, NFC capabilities, improved S Pen capabilities and best of all comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.
