WHile this obviously includes all the improvements expected in Android 4.4.2, LG also mentions an improvement to their innovative KnockOn feature called KnockCode which was thought to be only for the G2 Pro. The feature won't be available yet, but will be activated in Q2 this years and will allows users to unlock their phone using a distinct "Knock" pattern.

If you have a G2 and have been anticipating the update, check under Settings, About Phone and Software update. We also have word that the G Flex should also be getting an update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat "later" in 2014.

Check out the press release after the break.

CANADIAN LG G2 RECEIVES ANDROID 4.4 KITKAT OS UPGRADE
AND NEW KNOCKCODE FEATURE

Toronto, March 25, 201 LG Electronics (LG) Canada announced today that the anticipated Android 4.4 KitKat OS upgrade for the G2 smartphone will roll out in Canada by the end of this month.

“LG is constantly striving to improve the user experience for its mobile customers and the latest KitKat OS upgrade furthers our commitment to Canadians,” said Ross Snow, vice-president of Mobile Communications, LG Canada. “In addition to introducing new features, the KitKat OS upgrade for the G2 delivers a number of optimizations that enhance the entire mobile user experience. We trust that our customers will enjoy the differentiated value offered by our latest upgrade package.”

With the KitKat upgrade, the G2 will play music more efficiently and support the battery-saving location mode, extending – the already outstanding − battery life and user enjoyment. The latest Android OS also provides a noticeable speed boost, allowing the G2 to run applications up to 17 per cent faster than before. It also delivers quicker web browsing, based on internal testing, thanks to the Chromium engine. What’s more, a handy new feature called Google Cloud Printer makes it easy to print documents via Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth connection.

Building on the G2’s existing KnockOn feature – which lets users knock the display to wake up the phone – LG is also announcing another upgrade for G2 with KnockCode in early Q2.  KnockCode is a unique new function that allows users to select a knock pattern to unlock their smartphone.  Knock the pattern on any location of the screen and the phone will unlock.

KnockCode offers greater convenience and security as the pattern is entered on a blank screen using anywhere from two to eight taps, allowing for more than 80,000 possible combinations for an unmatched level of safety and security.

Android 4.4 KitKat OS upgrade will also be made available for the new LG G Flex smartphone later in 2014.  Additional details will be made available closer to upgrade date.
