Samsung Canada Offers Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Upgrade
Available in Canada for Samsung GALAXY S III Users on December 3rd
MISSISSAUGA, ON – November 28, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Canada,  the global leader in Android™ smartphones today announced they will begin  to roll out Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) – an updated version of the world’s most popular smartphone operating system on December 3rd. The software upgrade will be available to owners of GALAXY S III in Canada. In addition, Jelly Bean upgrades for other Samsung devices will available soon.

“The Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Update brings an array of new and convenient features to the Samsung GALAXY devices, making them faster and more responsive,” said Paul Brannen, Vice President, Enterprise Business Solutions at Samsung Canada.  “Along with our carrier partners, we remain committed to providing Canadians the best possible mobile experience that enhances their mobile experiences.”

The Jelly Bean Update offers a host of improved features including improved notifications that allows users to act directly from a notification, without having to launch the app first.  Also, customizing the home screen has also become much easier: Simply place an icon or a widget on the screen, and other icons will simply move out of the way to make space.

Also included in the update is the highly anticipated Google Now feature, which is arguably the biggest change to the Android interface. It gives users the right information at just the right time: the weather forecast in the morning; traffic or public transport information just in time before getting into the car or getting onto the train; flight updates just before setting off to the airport. Travelling abroad? Google Now will automatically provide you with the right currency conversion, translations and even the current time back home.

Samsung will also offer the following new convenient features along with the Jelly Bean upgrade for GALAXY S III :

  • With the Easy Mode, users can find 5 large Easy widgets on the home screen which allow quick and easy access to the frequently used applications. The Easy widgets include both 4x2 and 4x4 arrangements of Favorite contacts, Favorite apps, Favorite settings, and Clock and Alarm.
  • Blocking Mode adds extra convenience, enabling users to block incoming calls, notifications, alarms and LED indicators for a designated period of time.
  • A pause function is added to the camera, so users can record a continuous video while only capturing the moments they want; just like on a video camera, the recording can easily be stopped and resumed.
  • Users now can place the upgraded ‘Pop up play’ to watch a video anywhere on the phone’s screen while running other apps, and can change the size of the player window.

The availability and scheduling of the software upgrade and specific models upgradable to Android 4.1 will vary by market and wireless carriers’ requirements.
