Virgin/Bell HTC Legend finally getting Android 2.2 Froyo

It took a while but HTC Legend owners can now enjoy the Froyo update for their devices. While it isn't Android 2.3 Gingerbread, this is still a welcome upgrade. This update will be pushed as an "over the air" update.

This update was announced by Virgin on their Facebook page where they state: "android froyo 2.2 for htc legend is now available! go to settings > about phone > software update to get it. tip: hop on wifi to download without using your data. thanks for your patience. we really do ♥ you guys.".

Several commenters on MobileSyrup's post have also said the their Bell HTC Legend has also received the update while others haven't gotten the notification. I imagine that the rollout will be done in a staggered manner, explaining why some got the upgrade while others haven't.

  2. Got notified of the upgrade on my phone last night. It asked me if I wanted to upgrade via network and WiFi or just WiFi or Cancel. It warned me that network upgrade might incur data charges since it was a large download. There was no "Later" button on the message. As I was no where near a WiFi network at the time, I didn't want to Cancel since I do want the upgrade, so I chose to just click the Home button. The message went away and there is no notification or message of any sort as to how to download it now.

I hope the server pushes another notification to me but not being able to delay the upgrade to a time of my convenience is, IMO, a big #FAIL.

  3. I got my update this morning - an 87MB download; you need to have 30MB free space in phone memory for it to install. I discovered it by going to Settings>About Phone>Software Update. After uninstalling a couple of larger apps to make space, the whole process took about 30 minutes.

The speed improvement is quite noticeable, and everything works great afterwards. Happy!

  5. @Daryle are you seriously blaming the company for your own lack of initiative?! Just click menu, settings, about phone, and the first thing there is system software updates. Gotta love when people freak out over absolutely nothing... cheers!
