The next major version will be Android 4.4 KitKat - Glimpse of next Nexus?

In a surprising move today, Android boss Sundar Pichai revealed on Google+ that the next major version of Android, version 4.4, was going to be called KitKat instead of the widely accepted Key Lime Pie. The announcement was of course followed by footage of a giant KitKat shaped android being placed on the GooglePlex front lawn.

While details are scare other than it will be Android 4.4, what we do know is that this new version will probably be launching with the next version of the Nexus smartphone. Also, in partnership with Nestle, special edition Android KitKat bars will be sold in stores with a chance for people to win a brand new Nexus 7 tablet or Google Play credits.

Also during the video unveiling of the new Android lawn ornament, an unknown Nexus branded device bearing what looks like an LG logo was spotted.

Google says that with Android 4.4 KitKat, "It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody."

Here's what the promotional packaging will most likely look like in Canada.
