Vidéotron Garmin A50 getting upgrade to... Éclair...?

The Vidéotron Garmin A50 has been stuck on Android 1.6 - Donut since it launched almost half a year ago. So it was already behind the curve when compared to other phones in Vidéotron's lineup. Here is somewhat relatively good news for people who had purchased the GPS navigation centric phone, it will be receiving an update to Android 2.1 - Éclair.

It's great that it will finally be getting an update. But one must wonder what took so long for the update to happen? The T-Mobile Asus Garminfone, which is the American equivalent of the A50, got Android 2.1 back in November!

The second concern, which has a lot to do with the first concern, is why Android 2.1 Éclair? What prevents it from just going to at least Froyo at this point.

In any case an upgrade is an upgrade and it's still welcome news. There is no timeline on the upgrade but given that it is now official it should be pushed out shortly. Now let's see if the Vidéotron Nexus One gets Android 2.3 - Gingerbread in a timely manner.
