HTC Desire Family to get Android 2.3 in spring/summer?
With all the talk of HTC's new flagship phones the HTC Incredible S and Desire S, at MWC 2011, this has left some current gen HTC smartphone owners wondering "what about me?" Well good news, CNET has gotten official word from HTC that current Desire family of Android phone will receive a staggered update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The HD and Z will in all likelihood be the first to receive the update with the original Desire following shortly after. While this timeline is probably targeted at non-carrier branded, unlocked handsets there is no reason that carrier branded phone not be given the same treatment.
HTC stated that the updates would be expected approximately two months after the Desire S launches, since the next gen phone is expected halfway through Q2 2011, this means the Desire HD/Z should expect a late spring update to 2.3 while the original Desire could have the update pushed to mid/late summer.
Now as far as Canadian Desires there hasn't been official word from TELUS or Bell but hopefully there will be a commitment shortly.
